The Consumers, Numbers and Governance (CNG) department is involved in protecting consumers, issuing telephone numbers and providing support for management and the Commission with the aid of strategic advice and communication.
Consumers
CNG focuses on those provisions of the law governing consumer protection. Where necessary OPTA acts for the purposes of enforcement. In addition, educating consumers and combating spam and spyware
SpywareUndesirable software installed on your computer. are very important. The department maintains the ConsuWijzer and Spamklacht websites for this purpose and answers questions and complaints which are received through them. It also adjudicates disputes related to laying or relocating cables.
Numbers
The numbering office manages all of the telephone numbers in the Netherlands and registers all parties that provide electronic communications services. This includes determining the mandatory fees payable by all of these parties. In addition, the department monitors compliance with those provisions of the Telecommunications Act governing numbers.
Governance
Finally, this department is responsible for maintaining contact with other Dutch and foreign regulatory authorities, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the European Commission. It is necessary to consult those parties to ensure optimum regulation.
